Minecraft is primarily known as a “Sandbox” game, A game in which users take raw materials and build unique structures from scratch. If you have every played “Garry’s Mod”, a popular Steam game, you will notice the similarities and the overall building and playing aspect that the two games have in common. However what Garry’s Mod has that Minecraft doesn’t is the ability to spawn items. With the use of the “Q” button, Garry’s Mod players can easily select exactly what objects they want to manipulate and implement them into their latest project. For Garry’s mod players, the sandbox aspect is much more of a creative environment, rather than a survival one.
Minecraft users on the other hand need to mine for their materials, build tools on a crafting table that they must craft from raw wood and create a structure out of other materials that must be individually crafted. The process of building a structure can take much longer and this is what bothers many Minecraft players. Wouldn’t everything just be a whole lot easier if you could push a button, select the items you would like to spawn, and utilize those resources?
Marglyph, the core Java coder for Too Many Items for Minecraft 1.5.1 mod had exactly this in mind while designing the popular inventory modification. Just like Garry’s mod, users will need to push the “E” button to view their inventory, however rather than seeing the usual 3×9 inventory grid, they will also be greeted with a massive list of items that they can choose from to place into their inventory for further use. This is definitely not something the passionate Minecraft player would be interested in however if you’re looking to build some massive seemingly impossible to construct buildings, you might want to check this out!

In my personal opinion, while this mod drastically modifies the game, it’s definitely worth trying and can be a lot of fun! It’s a huge help, especially to server administrators and those just looking to be creative! Absolutely any blocks can be spawned and whats nice is that even if you have a special mod installed that adds more items, this mod will pick up on that. I highly suggest you try it out if possible, you will not be disappointing. If you do have the chance we also recommend you express your gratitude to the author of the mod for their contribution to the Minecraft modding community.
